In Brief: B of A Installs Two Smart-Card Systems

SAN FRANCISCO — The merchant processing arm of Bank of America Corp. has set up two point-of-sale systems accepting smart cards.

One is the employee cafeteria at Visa U.S.A.’s Foster City, Calif., headquarters, and the other is the employee cafeteria at Vital Processing Services in Tempe, Ariz.

Visa and Vital employees can now make chip card payments in their cafeterias using Visa smart cards.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Bank of America does not yet issue smart cards, but its merchant services group said it is eager to build the infrastructure to support them.
