In Brief: Bank One Beefs Up Small-Business Lending

Bank One Corp. on Thursday kicked off a five-year pilot program designed to boost Small Business Administration lending in low- and moderate-income communities.

The program, called "Community Express," offers loans up to $250,000, significantly larger than the $150,000 maximum offered under Bank One's current SBA lending program.

Community Express also will offer technical and management assistance through local nonprofits before and after the loans are made.

The program is offered in conjunction with the National Community Reinvestment Coalition.
