In Brief: Bank Tech Pioneer DiNardo Dies

George DiNardo, a former technology guru at Citigroup Inc. and Mellon Financial Corp., died May 5 of respiratory failure. He was 67.

Mr. DiNardo developed electronic banking and automated teller machine technology during the more than two decades he worked at Mellon. He joined the banking company in 1969 and became its executive vice president of information management and research in 1985.

Mr. DiNardo left Mellon in 1991 for Coopers & Lybrand. In 1993 he was named Citi's chief technology officer for its Asia-Pacific consumer bank unit. He retired in 2001.

"George was one of the world's most influential information-technology executives in the financial services industry," said Otto Chu, the chairman of Chu Financial Management Corp., in a press release. Mr. Chu was Mr. DiNardo's attorney at Mellon.

Mr. DiNardo is survived by his widow and five sons.
