Covelight Systems Inc. of Cary, N.C., said BB&T Corp. will use its security software to protect its Web site.
BB&T already uses Actimize Inc.'s Enterprise Fraud Prevention software to protect customers' online transactions. The Winston-Salem, N.C., banking company will add Covelight's Inflight Intelligence Engine to feed extra data to the Actimize software.
Inflight monitors Web activity, such as online transactions. The Actimize software will use the extra data if a pattern of activity suggests fraud. In such cases, the Actimize software might prompt the user for stronger authentication or block a transaction altogether.
"Inflight enables us to quickly extend additional protection," Paal Kaperdal, BB&T's senior vice president of e-business, said in a press release Monday.
