In Brief: Booklet Explains Ins and Outs of New CRA

WASHINGTON - The ABA also has a new product to help bankers comply with the complex Community Reinvestment Act rules adopted in April.

A 63-page summary and analysis has been mailed free to all ABA members.

The booklet includes an explanation of how regulators will define a bank's delineated community, compliance timetables, and public disclosure requirements.

"ABA's executive summary, which provides an overview of the new rule, is essential reading for CEOs and chief lending officers," said ABA president Howard L.

The trade group also has developed a CRA video and training manual to explain the new rules, which begin taking effect Jan. 1. Banks can call 800-338-0626 for more information.

"Even though the regulation won't be in effect until next year, banks need time to alter their compliance activities," Mr. McMillan added.
