In Brief: Brookline of Mass. Opens Internet Bank

WALTHAM, Mass. - Lighthousebank.com, a subsidiary of $858.5 billion-asset Brookline Bancorp in Brookline, Mass., opened Monday.

The Internet-only bank is aiming at Web-savvy individuals 30 to 55. Though it is not targeting New England exclusively, its radio, newspaper, direct mail, and online banner ads will focus on the region.

Lighthousebank will rebate up to $6 per month in automated teller machine fees. It is a member of the SUM network, an alliance of banks that have agreed not to charge each other's customers for using their ATMs. The network has 1,700 ATM's in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and New York.

Lighthousebank is offering no-fee checking, free bill payment, high-interest certificates of deposit and money market accounts, and an account aggregation service that presents a full view of a customer's financial services profile regardless of the institution hosting the account.
