Capitol Bancorp Inc. of Lansing, Mich., said this week that it plans to open a bank in Fort Collins, Colo., in midyear.
Fort Collins Commerce Bank would be Capitol's first in Colorado.
The community bank holding company, which owns majority stakes in 33 separately chartered banks in nine states, announced last week that it had applied to open a bank in Bellevue, Wash.
Bank of Bellevue, which would be Capitol's first in the Pacific Northwest, is also set to open around midyear.
As it has done with previous start-ups, the $3.1 billion-asset Capitol has hired local bankers to run Fort Collins Commerce and Bank of Bellevue.
Gerard Nalezny has been named the chief executive officer and Mark Kross the president and chief credit officer at Fort Collins Commerce. Andrew P. Barlass, a longtime Puget Sound banker, has been appointed as the president and CEO at Bank of Bellevue.
