In Brief: CEO Succession Is Set At Va.'s F&M National

F&M National Corp. in Winchester, Va., has named Alfred B. Whitt to succeed its chief executive, who plans to step down next year.

Mr. Whitt, 60, currently president and chief financial officer of the $2.9 billion-asset company, is to succeed W.M. Feltner in May 2000. Mr. Feltner, 79, announced last month that he would retire. He has worked for F&M since 1942.

This would be Mr. Whitt's second run as a bank chief executive. He led Massanutten Bank and Trust Co. in Harrisonburg, Va., from 1975 until 1986. F&M bought Massanutten in 1981.
