Chase Manhattan Corp. will begin surcharging noncustomers at its automated teller machines beginning Jan. 9, the company said Wednesday.

With 1,499 ATMs in New York and New Jersey, Chase said it has the largest ATM network in the New York metropolitan area. The bank will levy fees ranging from $1 to $1.50.
