In Brief: Chinese Net Banking Through East West

SAN MARINO, Calif. - East West Bank is offering Chinese-language banking on its Web site as well as Internet access through two services.

Customers can get Internet access through Pacific Bell Basic DSL with Prodigy for $37.95 a month by signing a one-year service agreement, or through Sina.com, an Internet portal for Chinese communities worldwide, for free.

The bank will distribute cobranded Sina.com CD-ROMs through its 39 branches.

East West also will provide $10 Shell prepaid gift cards to the first 1,000 individuals who open a new bank account next month.

The bank will also hold weekly drawings for $100 gift cards. Customers who open accounts from Oct. 1 through next March will be eligible for the drawings.

The cards can be used to purchase Shell gasoline or other retail products.
