In Brief: Chip Card, Loyalty Firms to Team Up

SALT LAKE CITY - Cardis Enterprises International, developer of a system for card-based micropayments, and Smart Chip Technologies Inc. announced they would explore ways to integrate their patented technologies for smart card payment and loyalty applications.

Cardis, based in the Netherlands, has developed a chip-based payment solution called Ultimus that lets small payments be made on a combination credit-debit card. Smart Chip Technologies specializes in smart card loyalty applications.

The companies said their "joint initiatives would help to reshape secure smart-card-based retail payments and loyalty programs in North America and stimulate e-commerce where there is a growing and urgent need for secure reward-based payment solutions."
