In Brief: Citi, Travelers Schedule Shareholder Ballots

Citicorp and Travelers Group announced Tuesday that they have each scheduled special meetings July 22 for shareholders to vote on their proposed $70 billion merger.

In April the two companies announced plans to combine into a $700 billion-asset banking, insurance, and brokerage conglomerate to be known as Citigroup. Executives at the two companies said they hoped to complete the deal in the third quarter.

In May the two companies filed their application with the Federal Reserve Board, which must review the merger.

Travelers scheduled its meeting for 10 a.m. on July 22, and Citi's meeting will be at 3 p.m. Each is scheduled to be conducted at Citi's Park Avenue headquarters. The record date is June 5.
