In Brief: Citibank, Brazilian Firm In E-Commerce Alliance

NEW YORK - Citibank has teamed up with the financial software company SAP Brazil to provide business-to-business e-commerce capabilities to companies in Brazil.

SAP's purchasing software will be integrated with Citibank's Procurement Connection e-marketplace to let Brazilian companies link directly with suppliers over the Web, the bank said. The alliance is meant to improve corporate buying and selling processes and increase Citibank's and SAP's position in the Brazilian market, Citibank said.

"To meet market demands, Citibank had to create a localized Internet-based procurement solution to adapt to the Brazilian market," said Gustavo Marin, Citibank's corporate and investment banking CEO in Brazil. Both Procurement Connection and SAP's purchasing software were developed with technology from Commerce One Inc.
