In Brief: City National of L.A. Has 22% 3Q Gain

City National Corp. of Los Angeles had record third-quarter net income of $34.2 million, or 70 cents a share, up 22%.

The $8.8 billion-asset parent company of City National Bank said earnings for the nine months were $98.6 million, or $2.04, against $80.2 million, or $1.70 a share, in the first nine months of 1999.

It credited its February acquisition of Pacific Bank in San Francisco and its August 1999 purchase American Pacific State Bank in Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Other events included the opening of an office in Palo Alto, Calif.
