In Brief: CNA Life Adds New Benefits to Products

NASHVILLE — CNA Life, a unit of the CNA insurance companies, has added two riders to benefits offered by its Term 400-series life insurance.

CNA offers two series of term-life products underwritten by its Valley Forge Life Insurance Co. subsidiary: the 100-series, which offers basic benefits, and the 400-series, which offers additional features.

The 400-series now has a guaranteed insurability option and no extra charge for the family accidental-death benefit.

The family accidental-death benefit will pay $10,000 if the insured dies an accidental death and $5,000 upon the accidental death of the spouse and each child. Children are covered to age 21, or 25 if they are full-time students.

The guaranteed insurability option lets the policyholder increase coverage by up to twice the original face amount, to a maximum of $500,000, without proof of good health.

Certain events such as marriage, the birth or adoption of a child, becoming a legal guardian of an adult, or buying a primary home open a one-year window during which the primary insured can increase coverage by the original face amount. During the life of the policy, the insured may exercise this option twice.

The new benefits are available on policies sold after Dec. 1, 2000.
