Colorado lawmakers have approved the creation of a statewide identity theft task force that would include bankers.
On Friday the Colorado House of Representatives approved the Senate's amendments to the task force bill, and Gov. Bill Owens is expected to sign it into law within the next month.
The legislation would create an Identity Theft and Financial Fraud Board and task force to monitor scams and then disseminate information and recommendations to local law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and financial institutions.
The task force would be funded by surcharges on banks, consumer finance companies, and money transmitters.
