Mr. Lewis joined the $330 million-asset Citizens in 1998 when it acquired First Southern Bank of Lithonia, where he held the same title.

Since he and others from First Southern joined the management team, Citizens has undergone a dramatic turnaround; its assets have grown more than 150%, and its net income grew from $84,000 in 1997 to $2.3 million last year.

James E. Young, Citizens' president and CEO, said in a press release that rather than hiring a new chief operating officer, the management team would collectively handle Mr. Lewis' duties.
