In Brief: Countrywide, Sprint Join in Wireless Service

CALABASAS, Calif. - Countrywide Home Loans Inc. and Sprint PCS are teaming up to give real estate agents and brokers wireless access to home financing resources.

The partnership, announced Monday, gives Sprint PCS customers access to mortgage rates, loan status and qualification, and affordability factors via the Sprint PCS Wireless Web Browser.

Homebuyers are also eligible. The service is intended to give Countrywide branches a direct link to customers wishing to speak with a sales agent. Users can earn up to 300 hours of Sprint residential long-distance service when they fund a home loan with Countrywide.

The service offers "a remarkable alternative to the traditional lending process," said Chip Novick, vice president of consumer marketing for Sprint PCS. "Customers will be able to decide when and where they want this information," and real estate agents "will be able to help provide answers to their clients on a more timely basis."

Joe Anderson, executive vice president of Countrywide Home Loans, said no other national lender makes services available through wireless devices. The arrangement gives Countrywide's customers and agent partners "an opportunity to take additional control of their home financing needs on a nationwide basis," he said.

The Countrywide site is to appear as Countrywide Home Loans in Sprint PCS Wireless Web's finance and business tools categories, as well as on My Wireless Web.
