In Brief: D.C.'s Franklin Bancorp. Buys into Virginia Suburbs

WASHINGTON - Franklin Bancorp. completed its purchase of George Washington Banking Corp., establishing a foothold in the wealthy Virginia suburbs.

Franklin owns Franklin National Bank in Washington. George Washington Banking Corp. has been renamed Franklin National Bank of Virginia.

The holding company now has $280 million in assets. "Over time we will pursue opportunities to do the same in suburban Maryland," said Robert Pincus, chief executive of Franklin.
