In Brief: Diabetes Foundation On Discover Gift List

RIVERWOODS, Ill. — Discover Financial Services has added the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International to the charitable beneficiaries of its cash-back award program.

Discover cardholders participating in the program get up to 1% back on their purchase totals. Those who give their reward money to charity may now designate it for the foundation, which is the largest nongovernmental source of funding for diabetes research. Other beneficiaries of the Discover program include the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children who have life-threatening diseases, and Communities In Schools, which brings volunteers and parents into schools to discourage children from dropping out.

Discover, which is owned by Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., said the cash-back charity program has so far raised $14 million for Make-A-Wish and $214,000 for Communities In Schools.
