nCipher Inc., a maker of cryptographic accelerators for secure electronic commerce, said Digital Insight Corp. will be using its nFast 300 system in its Internet banking operations.
With more than 50 million hits a month on its Web servers from customers of 300 client banks and credit unions, Calabasas, Calif.-based Digital Insight turned to nCipher "to ensure that our customers' transactions happen quickly and securely," said Ole Eichhorn, vice president of development at Digital Insight.
The accelerators are designed to prevent central processors from getting bogged down in complex cryptographic calculations. Digital Insight viewed nFast 300 as "a cost-effective alternative that ensures high-performance- without our having to add expensive Web servers to handle the load," said Mr. Eichhorn.
Digital Insight worked with nCipher to develop the IBM RS-6000 compatible version of nFast and served as a test site.
