In Brief: Dreyfus Hires Eggers Back as President

Dreyfus Corp., Mellon Financial Corp.'s mutual fund subsidiary, said that Thomas F. Eggers would rejoin the New York company as president on April 1.

Mr. Eggers succeeds Michael G. Millard who will remain with the company during a transition period, Dreyfus said on Thursday. Mr. Eggers was also expected to be named the chairman and chief executive officer of Dreyfus Service Corp., the fund company's distribution unit, and to be elected to Dreyfus' board of directors.

He first joined the company in April 1996 as head of its Dreyfus Investments. He was appointed vice chairman of Dreyfus Corp. in January 1999 and promoted to president in October 2001.

Mr. Eggers has been the president and CEO of Scudder Investments since May 2002.

As president of Dreyfus, Mr. Eggers will oversee sales, both direct and through intermediaries; strategic product management and development; and marketing.

The fund arm of Pittsburgh's Mellon has $160 billion of assets under management.
