In Brief: First Data President Gets Seat on Board

ATLANTA - First Data Corp. has named Charles T. Fote, president and chief operating officer, to its board of directors.

A 30-year veteran of the payments industry, Mr. Fote will serve the remaining term of Ben Burdetsky, a professor emeritus at George Washington University, who passed away in April. Mr. Burdetsky's seat is up for election in the spring of 2001.

Mr. Fote joined First Data in 1975. Prior to his current post, he served as executive vice president and oversaw the company's payment instrument businesses, including Western Union.

Henry C. "Ric" Duques, chairman and chief executive officer of the giant payments company, said Mr. Fote "has brought tremendous energy and a sense of urgency to the business" since his appointment as president in the fall of 1998.
