NextCard, Visa Join in Online Rebate Offering

SAN FRANCISCO - Online credit card issuer NextCard Inc. is offering a Visa card in conjunction with ebates.com, a San Francisco company that gives its members cash back when they shop at selected Web retailers.Cardholders are to get a one-time, $30 credit when they make a qualifying purchase using the new card. Members using the card will get an additional 10% rebate - on top of the usual rebate of up to 25% - when shopping at certain merchants. These preferred merchants include Reel.com, PetStore.com, Borders.com, BigStar.com, Garden.com, and Art.com.


CFO Who Streamlined Deluxe Is Departing

ST. PAUL - Thomas W. VanHimbergen, chief financial officer at Deluxe Corp., will leave the company April 30, officials announced.Mr. VanHimbergen, 51, joined Deluxe in 1997. The St. Paul company is parent to four businesses that offer transaction processing and related payments products.

The finance chief was "instrumental in the divestiture of more than 15 nonstrategic businesses," J.A. Blanchard, chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement. His reason for leaving was not disclosed.

Lois Martin, 37, vice president and corporate controller, is to be interim senior vice president and CFO after Mr. VanHimbergen departs. In a related announcement, Paul H. Bristow, 57, was hired to be CFO of eFunds Corp., a unit of Deluxe that recently filed for an initial public offering. Mr. Bristow was CFO and treasurer of Galileo International Inc. of Rosemont, Ill., which connects travel agents with booking information for airlines, hotel chains, and car rental companies.


MasterCard to Help Manage Business Data

PURCHASE, N.Y. - MasterCard International has developed a product that aims to help businesses manage their financial data through the Internet.The product, Smart Data Online, lets companies monitor spending on corporate cards, generates standard and custom reports, and can integrate transaction data into existing accounting systems.

Smart Data Online is available in eight languages and for all major currencies.


ATM Network Selling Vendor's Web Services

McLEAN, Va. - Online Resources and Communications Corp. said that its Internet banking services are being marketed by Money Belt, the regional automated teller machine network of First Tennessee Bank of Memphis. First National Bank of Blytheville, Ark., was the first bank in the network to sign a contract for Online Resources' services as a result of this alliance. Money Belt has 250 member institutions.Online Resources services include real-time Internet banking and bill payment and other financial services aggregated on the bank's Web site.


Marketing Firm Hires Former MBNA Exec

WILMINGTON, Del. - Stuart Crutchfield, former first vice president of corporate and strategic planning at MBNA Corp., has been hired as chief financial officer by De Novo Corp., a marketing and advertising consulting firm with many clients in the credit card business. He is to be responsible for preparing an initial public offering, which the company hopes to carry out in 2002.Mr. Crutchfield has 14 years of experience in banking, including jobs at Providian Financial Corp. and Natwest Bank.
