In Brief: Fleet Raises Its Job Cut Estimate to 750

BOSTON — FleetBoston Financial Corp. said it would eliminate about 750 positions in connection with a previously announced restructuring, for which it had originally announced it would cut 250 to 500 jobs.

A regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission said the banking company notified most of the affected employees on or before March 31. During the first quarter 270 employees were fired and $6 million of related benefits were paid, the filing said.

The company expects that the remaining affected employees will leave this quarter.
