The $1.7 billion-asset Guaranty said Friday that had formed a partnership with the supermarket chain Kroger Co. and will open first Atlanta-area branches in November and December.

The branches would operate under the name BestBank, as its branches in Michigan do, to avoid conflict with other banks that have the Guaranty name.

Guaranty has 130 branches in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois - about half of them in grocery stores. It also operates Fairfield Mortgage, Guaranty Mortgage, and GB Home Equity, all of which already have offices in Georgia.
