The Guardian Life Insurance Co. of America and Destiny Health said Monday that they are offering a health savings account option in conjunction with the Destiny Health Plan.
The Chicago company's plan is available through the alliance to employers in Illinois, Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.
HSAs were created by a federal law in 2003. Employees and their employers can contribute pretax dollars into the accounts, and the money can be withdrawn tax-free to pay for qualified medical expenses.
Guardian Life, a New York insurer, is the fourth-largest mutual life insurance company in the nation; it offers life, disability, health, and dental insurance, as well as 401(k)s and trust services.
