Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. announced Wednesday that it had hired Matthew R. Kirk, an aide to President Bush, to be its vice president of federal affairs.
Mr. Kirk was a deputy assistant to the President for legislative affairs. At the White House he most recently was its chief Senate lobbyist.
He will be based in Washington as Hartford's chief lobbyist and is to begin the role Feb. 20. He will represent the insurer on public policy issues related to the company and the insurance industry that involve Congress and the executive branch.
Before joining the Bush administration, Mr. Kirk worked on the Senate's leadership staff, from 1995 as an assistant to the Republican Policy Committee to 2001 as the senior floor assistant to the assistant majority leader, Sen. Don Nickles, R-Okla.
