In Brief: Health Net Hires a Controller

Health Net Inc. announced Friday that Maurice Hebert had joined the company as corporate controller.

He is responsible for all accounting, financial reporting, tax, financial planning, business planning and analysis, payroll, and procurement functions, the Los Angeles health insurer said. He reports to Buddy Piszel, the company's chief financial officer.

Mr. Hebert, 42, joined Health Net last Tuesday from Safeco Corp. where he was the senior vice president-controller and principal accounting officer. He also has worked at AIG SunAmerica, most recently as vice president-controller for its life insurance companies.

Health Net is among the nation's largest publicly traded, managed health-care companies. It insures about 6.5 million people in 27 states and the District of Columbia.
