Tremont Capital Management Inc., a hedge funds of funds manager, announced Tuesday that it had hired Thomas Sandlow and named him director of manager research.
Mr. Sandlow is to manage the Rye, N.Y., company's 20-person hedge fund manager research group; he reports to Cynthia Nicoll, Tremont's chief investment officer. He is joining an investment team of 36 professionals.
He was a member of Safra Asset Management's investment committee and headed its $2 billion fund of funds manager research group. He also had worked at Chase Manhattan Bank's securities division, where he built and managed the equity derivatives business in New York, London, and Tokyo.
Last November, Tremont added John Matwey and James Van Putten to its risk management and portfolio services team. It manages about $10 billion of assets from offices in Rye, London, Hong Kong, Toronto, and Bermuda.
