In Brief: HSBC Unit Hires 7 for Equity Business

HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. said Thursday that it had hired seven U.S. professionals to further its global equities expansion.

In the wake of the formal launching of its global equity research product, the unit of HSBC Holdings PLC has hired Neil Bloomgarden, Aidan Toomey, Thomas Terzulli, Sean McDonald, James Reidy, Christopher Taylor, and John Donovan.

Mr. Bloomgarden joins from First New York Securities as a managing director and senior energy, utilities, metals and mining sectors trader. Mr. Toomey also was hired - from Merrill Lynch & Co. - as a managing director and senior sector trader, and both report to Paul Cooper, the global head of sector trading, and Anthony Murphy, the CEO of HSBC Securities (USA).

Mr. Terzulli was hired from Goldman Sachs as a senior vice president and senior sector trader. He reports to Mr. Cooper and Mr. Murphy. Mr. McDonald, who joins from Merrill Lynch, and Mr. Reidy, formerly of Schwab Soundview Capital Markets, were added as managing directors and senior sales traders reporting to Thomas Del Zoppo, the head of North American equity sales.

Mr. Taylor was hired from UBS Financial Services to be a vice president and sales trader reporting to Mr. Reidy. Mr. Donovan joins from Deutsche Bank as a senior vice president and senior sales trader reporting to Mr. Del Zoppo and Mario Arace, the head of international sales trading.

All are based in New York except Mr. Reidy and Mr. Taylor, who are based in Boston.
