To help protect some annuity customers from the consequences of identity theft, Sun Life Financial U.S. in Wellesley Hills, Mass., said Monday that it is offering a one-year free membership in PrivacyGuard, a credit monitoring and reporting service.

Identity theft is among the fastest-growing crimes in America, according to a Better Business Bureau survey this year that said 9.3 million Americans had been victimized in the preceding 12 months. PrivacyGuard monitors changes in credit reports and can help resolve issues early on.
