Life of the South, a Jacksonville, Fla., credit insurance provider, said Tuesday that it had hired a former AmSouth Bank and Bank of America executive to be client-service manager for its financial institution group.

Victor Halbach 3d was in charge of training, wholesaling, and sales-related initiatives as part of the AmSouth payment protection program.
Life of the South also said that it would enlarge its payment protection and insurance services business with deals announced last week to buy American Guaranty Insurance Co. and Triangle Life Insurance Co., both in North Carolina. In the past 24 months, the company said, it has doubled its net written premiums, and it foresees substantial growth again this year.
