In Brief: Lloyd's of London Names U.S. Firms

NEW YORK - Lloyd's of London announced Monday the names of the first independent U.S. insurance agencies accredited to bring underwriting business directly to the London-based insurer.

They are the Hanleigh Group of Montvale, N.J., and Sarasota, Fla., and International Space Brokers of Rosslyn, Va. Their selection came a month after an announcement by Lloyd's that the United States had become its largest market.

Until the beginning of this year the right to bring business to underwriters at Lloyd's was restricted to firms headquartered in London. The first agencies based outside London to be accredited were announced earlier this year.

Including the two U.S. agencies, Lloyd's has now accredited 11 firms based outside London.
