MassMutual Financial Group said Monday that it had hired Gregory W. Zabel to be vice president of life insurance sales.

Mr. Zabel has begun managing the career agency life regional directors for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Springfield, Mass., as well as third-party distribution efforts, including relationships with broker-dealers, wire houses, and advisers. He reports to Craig Waddington, a vice president and actuary.

MassMutual hired Mr. Zabel from Travelers Life and Annuity Co., where he was regional vice president for the Northeast.
