Hedge fund assets grew 0.9% in May, according to the Van Global Hedge Fund Index released on Thursday.
The index provider, Van Money Manager Research LLC, said the index is up 0.2% for the year through May. It represents the average return of hedge funds tracked by the firm.
By comparison, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index and MSCI World Equity Index rose 3.2% and 1.5%, respectively, in May. For the year through May 31, however, these indexes were down 1% and 2.5%, respectively.
