In Brief: Mayoral Hopeful Backs Anti-Predator Bill

NEW YORK — City Comptroller and 2001 mayoral candidate Alan G. Hevesi unveiled new anti-predatory-lending legislation Friday that a spokesman said is likely to be introduced soon in the New York State Assembly by a number of Democrats.

The bill differs in approach from a similar predatory lending bill introduced in April. It calls for a broader definition of a predatory loan than in the earlier bill and bars the state from doing any business with lenders identified as predatory.

The spokesman said that the new bill is not intended to compete with the April bill but that it takes a different approach.
