In Brief: Mich. Start-Up Specialist Plans 1st Ind. Bank

A Michigan holding company that specializes in start-up banks is moving into Indiana.

Capitol Bancorp in Lansing said that by June 30 it intends to establish a community bank in Elkhart, a few miles south of the Michigan line.

Capitol, which has $1 billion of assets, operates 17 banks in Michigan and Arizona. This year, it announced plans to start its seventh bank in Arizona, as well as its first in Nevada.
