In Brief: Minn. Bankers Hire Pharmacists' Chief

The former head of the Minnesota pharmacy trade group has joined the state's bankers association as its top staff executive.

William Bond, 51, was head of the Minnesota Pharmacists Association for 13 years before becoming the Minnesota Bankers Association's executive vice president and chief executive officer. Mr. Bond, who has spent most of his career with trade groups and has no banking experience, said he expects to face a "steep learning curve" on issues facing banks, for example, financial modernization, agitation against ATM surcharging, and industry consolidation. He added that pharmacists and bankers share a concern on at least one major issue - the sharing of customer records.

"I'm sure there's plenty of headaches ahead, but right now I'm excited about the new challenge and opportunity," he said.
