National City Corp. in Cleveland said Tuesday that it has hired a former executive of FirstMerit Corp. in Akron, Ohio, to be its director of business succession planning and closely held business in the private-client group.
Bruce D. Hendryx was a client adviser in FirstMerit's private-client business. He is to be responsible for helping business owners prepare to transfer control of their companies; he reports to Patrick Alyward, a senior vice president and the private-client group's chief fiduciary officer. In addition to business succession, Mr. Hendryx will manage the closely held businesses held in trusts in the private-client group, the company said.
Before FirstMerit, Mr. Hendryx was a market-team leader in middle-market banking and Great Lakes regional manager for business succession planning at Cleveland's KeyCorp, a trust officer at Metropolitan Bank and Trust and Mahoning National Bank, and a tax consultant at Ernst & Young.
