In Brief: N.C. Bank's Georgia Thrift Adding Branches Fast

A fast-growing Georgia thrift announced last week that it plans to open seven new branches in the Atlanta area.

Atlantic States Bank already operates six branches from its headquarters in Norcross, Ga., and previously announced plans to add 11 more in Georgia. The seven additional branches would give Atlantic States 24 branches. Atlantic States, with $95 million of assets, is a wholly owned subsidiary of First Citizens Bancshares, a $8.6 billion-asset bank holding company based in Raleigh, N.C.

"These new locations represent excellent opportunities for Atlantic States Bank to reach its goal of becoming a super community bank," said James F. Pope, president of Atlantic States.
