In Brief: New Manulife Fund Applies Ethics Filter

WATERLOO, Ontario — Manulife Financial Corp. has launched what it called a socially responsible fund for Canadian investors.

The Manulife Canadian Balanced Ethics Fund screens out companies involved in industries like tobacco and gambling. Additional social screening research for the fund is supplied by Michael Jantzi Research Associates Inc., a New York independent research firm.

The fund, which was unveiled Thursday, is available to defined contribution clients in Manulife’s Group Pension plans and to segregated fund investors through Manulife Insured Portfolio Funds.
