Mellon Financial Corp. has created a unit in its private wealth management group to help increase sales and marketing and promoted Craig Sutherland to lead the unit as its vice chairman.
Mr. Sutherland had been national director of the private wealth management group's eastern markets. That post now belongs to Lawrence Hughes, who had been the group's chief operating officer.
Both men will work out of Boston in the private wealth management group, which has $80 billion of assets under management. Mellon, which is based in Pittsburgh, announced the unit Tuesday.
