Bank of Granite Corp. chairman John Forlines is retiring after more than a half century with the Granite Falls, N.C., company.
President and chief executive Charles M. Snipes will become chairman when Mr. Forlines retires on Jan. 8 - Mr. Forlines' 88th birthday.
Mr. Forlines will continue to work out of his Granite Falls office, and he will be a consultant to the $1 billion-asset company.
"I'll be available to help the bank, but I will also have time to other things that I haven't had time to do for the past 52 years," he said Tuesday in a press release.
Mr. Snipes said he expects that Mr. Forlines will serve as a good-will ambassador for the bank.
