New York Life Insurance Co. today said that it had promoted Brian A. Murdock to chief executive of New York Life Investment Management LLC as of July 1.

Mr. Murdock, 50, succeeds Gary Wendlandt whose promotion to senior executive vice president of the parent was announced on Monday. Mr. Wendlandt, 55, remains chairman of the investment management subsidiary, which oversees more than $200 billion of assets.
Mr. Murdock joined New York Life Investment Management as president in 2004.
