In Brief: NYSE Exec in Line for Treasury Post

WASHINGTON — President Bush plans to nominate New York Stock Exchange executive Sheila C. Bair as assistant Treasury secretary for financial institutions, a White House spokesman said Thursday.

Ms. Bair joined the NYSE in 1995 as senior vice president for government affairs, and is currently a consultant to NYSE chairman Richard A. Grasso. From to 1991-1995, Ms. Bair had a seat on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

The Kansas native was a counsel to former Sen. Bob Dole, R-Kan., in the mid-1980s, and worked on the Senate Judiciary courts subcommittee from 1981 to 1985. She earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Kansas.
