In Brief: PaineWebber Exec Jumps to BMO Unit

NEW YORK — BMO Nesbitt Burns, a part of Bank of Montreal’s investment banking group, hired James J. Goll to be a managing director in the U.S. debt origination group.

The firm has been expanding its U.S. debt business. The 18-person debt team is focused on providing high yield finance, private placements, restructurings and coverage of financial-sponsor groups, the firm said.

BMO plans to continue to add professionals, at all levels, to the debt team, Mr. Goll said.

Mr. Goll, based in New York, comes to BMO after 13 years at PaineWebber Inc. as managing director in the investment banking division. While at PaineWebber he provided financial advisory and capital-raising services to clients in the consumer products industry.

Mr. Goll said he had had worked with James J. Moglia, executive managing director and head of U.S. debt origination at the firm, at PaineWebber. Mr. Moglia joined BMO earlier this year.
