In Brief: People’s of Conn. Unveils Reward Plan

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. —People’s Bank has introduced an air travel reward program for its credit card holders.

Customers who carry the bank’s platinum MasterCard can sign up for the program, called AirRewards Plus, and earn a travel point for every dollar charged on the card. People’s, with $14 billion of assets, is offering free membership to select customers.

The program does not stipulate blackout dates and is compatible with all major U.S. airlines, as well as some hotel chains and car rental services.

John A. Klein, People’s president and chief executive officer, said in a press release that AirRewards shows a commitment to growth in the bank’s card business, which it is marketing outside the Northeast.

Credit card growth “historically has added significantly to the bank’s earnings,” Mr. Klein said.

People’s is the 16th-largest issuer of general-purpose credit cards in the United States, with $3.1 billion of card receivables.
