Phoenix Companies Inc. announced Monday that it had hired Edward W. Cassidy to be the senior vice president of life distribution, reporting to Philip K. Polkinghorn, the executive vice president, life and annuity.
Mr. Cassidy was hired from Principal Financial Group in Des Moines; he is to direct all individual life insurance sales, including Phoenix's regional wholesalers and the national support staff for sales by independent advisers.
At Principal, Mr. Cassidy was a senior vice president, individual life; he oversaw product development; marketing; risk management; and actuarial, finance, underwriting, and information technology activities.
Before joining Principal he spent 15 years at Travelers Life and Annuity Co., which, like Phoenix, is based in Hartford, Conn.; he worked in senior distribution positions and, ultimately, was president of Travelers' life division.
