In Brief: PMI Pledges $150K For Belfast Housing

SAN FRANCISCO - PMI Mortgage Insurance Co., which opened its first European office two months ago in Dublin, announced Wednesday that it will donate $150,000 to Habitat for Humanity's project to build affordable homes for Protestant and Catholic families in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The Building Communities without Fear project is designed to improve housing in the neighborhoods of Ligoniel and Ballysillan in northern Belfast, which have high unemployment rates and have long been controlled by paramilitary forces, and to encourage Protestants and Catholics to live side by side.

PMI said it has had partnerships in the past with Habitat and other nonprofit organizations in the United States to build and rehabilitate homes for low-income families in inner-city and rural communities.
